Arabic term or phrase: القرع
I usually think of this as meaning "pumpkin", but I realized it must refer to some other similar food as well. Reason being is that I'm translating an article which refers to a hadith wherein the Prophet (ص) referred to the nutritional values of القرع, but pumpkins originated in the Americas (as did all gourds in the Cucurbita genus) and so were not introduced to the rest of the world until after 1492 CE. Anyone know exactly what food this would have been?

Pumpkins

Explanation:
It is pumpkins.... What is mentioned about pumpkins being produced in the Americas and then spread around the world can be challenged, simply because pumkins are a pmant that can grow in oarts of the world where historians have not been to. Another explanation is that it was known in the Arab world by means of importing goods and trading. You also must be familiar with the word"يقطين" mentioned in the Quran. More over Arabic hasore than one term for pumpkins or its species.
