Thank you to everyone who offered a suggestion. I believe both points of view are valid. Unfortunately, Kudoz only allows one to award points to one answer. The reason I am choosing Olfat's answer is because I learned something new from her answer and not because I find it more "correct," and I hope that everyone will leave their answers posted so that others can benefit from them. مثل ما قلت من قبل، هذه الكلمات يشيع استخدامها بين فئة الشباب على وجه الخصوص، وأعتقد أن المعاني الدلالية للكلمة لم تتغير ولن تتغير

Thanks for the additional comments. The conversation took place around 15 years ago, and the people talking were probably in their mid-20s or older. Does this make the word any more likely to be positive or negative?

الزميلة الفاضلة/ الأستاذة ألفت .. المحترمة
أنا لم أقل ذلك على الإطلاق، فلا تقوليني ما لم أقله حفظك الله لأنني أعرف أن التعميم المطلق مفسدة مطلقة. أنا تحدثت عن المعاني الدلالية لكلمة نفخ في العامية المصرية وأرفقت رابطًا مرجعيًا يتناول دلالات كلمة نفخ ويمكنكم الإطلاع عليه ومن أهم العبارات فيه "ده راجل نفخ؛ أو راجل نفييخ؛ بمعنى رجل ممل".. كما أرفقت روابط من كلام الشباب توضح معنى الكلمة "حاجة نفخ، ونفخ التنين" ، وأرفقت سؤال لنفس السائلة المحترمة عن نفس الكلمة، وأشرت إلى أن السياق يوحي بالمعنى السلبي لأن عبارة حاجات نفخ أو مقابلة مع فنان ليست بالأمر المثير ولا تستهوي فئات كثيرة من الناس، وأنا عن نفسي أجد أن الفرجة على سهرات أو لقاءات مع الفنانين حاجة "نفخ" ومملة ومضيعة للوقت.

ومؤخرًا ظهرت عبارات صارت متداولة بين فئة الشباب والناس في الحواري المصرية مثل كلمة نفخ التنين ونفخ وهي تعبيرات تعني إما مملة أو متعبة أو في غاية السوء، وهناك كلمة هانفخك يعني هاتعبك أو هاموتك أو هاسبب لك المشاكل، وأدلل على ذلك بالرابطين التاليين

Since they are happy with the channel, then I recommend the positive meaning. Some young people are using the positive notion of this word to describe Game of Thrones (which is the best show ever), only because its content is very very exciting, so it's (نفخ) for the story characters who die or get killed in every episode. Surely, that doesn't mean that Game of Thrones is boring. You must also know that (in a way) it's a vulgar word.

Thanks, Olfat. The people are talking about a channel in the United States that broadcasts Arabic-language programs. They are happy about the channel because it gives them the opportunity to see things they miss from "back home" in Egypt.

I am undecided because it seems like either "boring" or "interesting" could work here. Also, there are people who feel strongly that it is a negative word:

Like many other slang vocabulary, the meaning of this word depends on the context. Sometimes it's negative and sometimes it's not.
