More or less the same as other days of the week Jun 5, 2023

Mondays aren’t any different than any other day. One of the joys of being a freelancer is having no typical work week...

More or less the same. Jun 5, 2023

My workload doesn't depend on single weekdays.

I find Mondays have their very own charm. Firstly, it's quiet because no new work ever comes in on a Monday morning: all my clients are in meetings. I feel like the entire country must be in a meeting on Monday mornings! And I've often got ahead a bit during down times at the weekend, so I can take it easy.
I actually often schedule non-work activities for Monday morning and don't really get back to work until Monday afternoon.

Totally useless information Jun 5, 2023

One not very exciting bit of totally useless information that my Excel workchart shows me is that, looking through the past 18 years of data, the day I produce the most during the week is Monday. It goes steadily downhill each day from there to Friday. I see that, on average, I earn 23% less on Fridays than I do on Mondays, which is quite a drop. That's the amount of work that I produce, not that I receive, have on my desk or deliver.

I really ought to change my Friday routine (or, possibly better, go a little easier on Mondays), but I made the graph about ten years ago and it has stayed pretty well the same since then, so there's probably nothing I can do about the way I work.

Today's Monday, so I hope you're all working hard and not wasting time like me

Same here but not always - it's possible, I suppose, that some professor or other has been working over the weekend and sends me a translation on Monday morning. But I don't think it has ever happened.

So this morning (Monday) I tried to stay in bed for an extra hour but my cat wouldn't let me.

I would say that it's actually useful information. If an urgent job comes in on Monday, you know you can power through. Whereas on Friday it'd be more of a push. But I suppose you feel it in your bones anyway.
A while ago I read that Tuesdays are the most productive days in most companies. Employees are still recovering from their weekend on Mondays, so then they put on the turbo on Tuesday. Then by Wednesday they're already worn out again so it's downhill from then on.
Just looking at when work comes in, Tuesday is definitely the busiest day in the week for me. So I get the impression that for our clients, Tuesday is the day they get the most work done.

You make a good point here - I hadn't thought of it like that. For me it's different though, for I rarely have more than one or two (maybe three, but generally zero) days per year when I wake up with nothing on my desk. 137,000 words this morning.

I would never have thought that I do more on Mondays than any other day but I think I've worked out why: in the past, my clients used to ask me to deliver "by the end of the week", which meant "Friday". I started telling them that if I could have the weekend as well, I'd have time for a better final check. This means that I now have many, if not most, of my deliveries on Monday and thus have to produce more, since I'm in a rush, having forgotten to do the job on Saturday or Sunday (or Friday).

Manic Mondays Jun 7, 2023

The big bosses tend to read stuff over the weekend, so I find plenty comes in on Mondays.

Friday is the slowest day, because everyone wants to knock off early.
