How well can the author express thoughts? . How pleasing is the language flow? . How accurately written is a technical source document? . How professional is the relationship with the client? . What is the rate for the project at hand? . Do I deal with a content returning customer or not? . and several other factors as well. If most of the answers to the questions above are right, either size is fine. If the results do not seem as good I may still accept small or even medium size projects every now and then. If the combination is wrong I will for sure decline a project, no matter what size. Adam ▲ Collapse

I love long-term projects where I can really capitalize on the research I do as well as get "settled" in the subject matter and required style. In addition, PMs tend to remember me better from working with me longer, and are more likely to call on me again than the mega-agencies who go through many different translators - sometimes on the same project (don't get me started on that topic!). However, I insist on getting paid at least monthly, even if the project lasts years (which happens). And if the client is new to me, I make extra-sure of getting references before I begin, because there's nothing worse than turning down other, quicker jobs for a long project and then waiting months to be paid. The largest project I have ever handled on my own was 90000 words over seven weeks. I enjoyed the work immensely and made the deadline, but it was TOO MUCH. In fact, anything over 20k really is too much, but then again it really does depend on the content. I would say 5k is ideal, up to 10k. | | | Marlene Blanshay Канада Local time: 01:35 Член ProZ.com c 2009 французский => английский + ...
for translation...however it does depend on deadlines! and for editing, small projects aren't really all that. I like larger projects...right now I'm doing a 200 page manual! I like having something substantial to work on and have the money coming in. And it's been kind of coincidental, during this time I've had very few offers even from regular clients...

If you always have small new ones, there's always more work involved in setting them up and research. I have worked on several big (around and over 100,000 words) projects too, and in most cases they were broken down by the clients themselves with different deadlines and all - this I find ideal, you benefit from all of the advantages of the bigger projects but it's still easy enough to fit in other little things and to keep on track (otherwise, when the deadline is too far, even if there's heaps to do, it's hard for me to focus all my effort into the one thing). And then lots of other things count too. First and foremost, the longer the project, the more interesting the topic has to be, or you'll be over it too soon ▲ Collapse | | | Страниц в теме: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Which is your preferred project size?
