Finding Europeans’ prevailing phobia is trickier: what spooks voters in one bit of the continent (asylum-seekers! deficits! Russia!) may be of scant concern to those on the other end.
Covid-19 is one contender, as it has made life dull from Dublin to Dubrovnik and beyond. Another is the continent’s ongoing energy crisis.

Having both an English and a Hungarian uncle, plus a father who travelled all over the world, kindled an interest in languages, especially English. I learnt basic English from reading SF stories aged 10-11 or so. Working in England one summer at age 15, and one summer in Germany aged 16, offered invaluable insights of life outside of Sweden.
My first marriage was to an American exchange student, which led to contacts and travels to the US. In my work as a dental professional in Sweden I was active in hosting professional exchanges and I also led voluntary aid projects in Latvia and in former DDR.
Moving to England in 2002 led to living and working there until 2019. During these years I travelled throughout the UK, married an Englishwoman and was active in charitable work as well.
