From a Circulaire issued by the French Ministère des affaires sociales et de la santé, regarding the reprocessing of flexible endoscopes:

Les mêmes règles de traitement, de stockage et de traçabilité s’appliquent pour les endoscopes utilisés **en garde**, les week-ends et jours fériés que les autres jours de la semaine.

I am familiar with 'en garde' meaning 'in custody' in other contexts, but realise that it's unlikely to mean that here. I haven't encountered the phrase in this context before - does it rather mean 'outside of usual operating/working hours' or 'at night'? Apologies if this is an obvious oversight - it's always the small things that trip you up...
